Dublin man collects €16.4 million Lotto win
DUBLIN, IRE – The winner of the Irish Lotto jackpot from Saturday’s draw has wasted almost no time in claiming and collecting his €16.4 million worth of winnings from the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin.
The winner, who described himself as an occasional lottery player, is from Dublin and has asked for anonymity. He said, in a news release, that he would be sharing his jackpot prize with his family. “I don’t play Lotto every week; however I’m more likely to play when the jackpot is a big amount, such as last weekend.” he said
The latest multi million euro winner is the 400th millionaire created by the Irish National Lottery and the €16.4 million prize claimed is the third biggest in Irish Lotto history. The biggest jackpot ever won was claimed in June 2008 by a syndicate of 16 people and was worth €18.9 million, while the biggest jackpot won by a single ticket holder was claimed in April this year at a total of €16.7 million. All Irish Lotto jackpots are tax free, which means that the latest winner will get precisely €16,390,239 in his bank account.
The ticket purchased by the man was worth €30 after he made a wide variety of selections, including some quick pick randomly generated numbers. It was one of the selections he made himself that ended up being the winner.
The winning numbers drawn on Saturday were 15, 16, 22, 25, 31 and 32. The bonus number was 37.
The total jackpot had grown so large thanks to a 16 week period during which it rolled over.
