PRAGUE – A Czech student almost found out the hard way that one can throw away lottery tickets too hastily after it turned out he had checked the previous weeks lottery numbers and unknowingly tore up and threw out the winning ticket.

After checking the correct weeks winning numbers he discovered that his ticket was worth the equivalent of $52,000. A frantic search through his trash and he managed to find all the pieces of the winning ticket and put it back together.

The Czech lottery agency accepted him as the winner after he contacted them. In a statement, the Czech lottery said that the student planned to use the money to buy his mother a new car and put the rest in a savings account towards purchasing a flat in the future.
