NZ Lotto raises $8.25 million for Christchurch Earthquake Appeal

CHRISTCHURCH, NZ – A special Lotto draw in New Zealand was held on Saturday which saw half of all proceeds go to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. The New Zealand Lotto confirmed that almost $8.25 million would be on the way to the appeal this week.
Lottery Chief Executive Todd McLeay said there had been a huge response from New Zealanders, many of them buying one ticket for them and one for Christchurch.
Half of all the takings from the Lotto, Lotto Strike and Lotto Powerball go to help the people suffering in the midst of the devestating earthquake.
Mr McLeay added that “this special draw very much fits with the core purpose of Lotto, which is to raise money for the community.”
Lotto Powerball was not won and the jackpot for this weeks draw has risen to an estimated $20 million.
Five people shared Lotto first division prizes, each claiming $200,000.
