STATEN ISLAND, NY – New York Lottery officials yesterday revealed the identity of the winner of the April 15th Mega Millions jackpot as 69 year old retired Transit Authority driver John Gillen from Staten Island.

Mr Gillen took the $72 million prize as a lump sum payment and split it between him and his three children. The lump sum payment totaled around $44 million and after taxes and other withholdings each person gets just under $7 million in their bank accounts.

Talking at the cheque presentation, Gillen said, “I always check the Mega Ball number first hoping to at least win a few dollars. That morning I just kept matching number after number and couldn’t believe it. I had my family double check for me because I didn’t believe what I was seeing.”

The winning numbers were 22, 23, 33, 39 and 48. The Mega Ball was 29.
