New Zealand Lotto donates $6m to Christchurch
CHRISTCHURCH, NZ – The people of Christchurch have receive a donation $6 million from the New Zealand Lotteries Commission in addition to the $8.2m given earlier in the year to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal from a special Lotto draw.
The Lottery handed out $154m to the community, with recipients including; $33m for Sport and Recreation New Zealand, $11.4m to the New Zealand Film Commission, $24.5m to Creative New Zealand, $750,000 for outdoor safety services and $26m to regional community committees.
Internal Affairs Minister Nathan Guy said the money game from the proceeds of Lotto, Instant Kiwi and Daily Keno and usually went into community projects. “It’s only fitting that this allocation goes towards rebuilding Christchurch.” he said.
“Over the last few years I’ve seen just how important lottery funding is in building strong, sustainable communities in New Zealand,” added Mr. Guy.
