Queens pair strike it rich
NEW YORK, NY- Two people from the Queens area have picked up million dollar wins after winning the jackpot in a New York Lottery scratch off ticket.
The first winner is Joseph Arcos, 44 who won the jackpot prize in the “Win $1,000 a week for Life” scratch card from the New York Lottery. He is a single father and an electrician from Queens. He said that he buys around $5 worth of tickets per week and this win is like “a little extra icing on the cake – for life!”
The other lucky winner of the same prize is Cora Gibney-Montes. She collected the prize even though it was her husband who purchased the winning ticket!
She told him to “go and win the Lottery” back one morning in early January and he obliged! Mr. Montes, who works night shifts as a mechanic didn’t scratch his winning ticket until the morning after he bought it and as soon as he revealed the win he phoned his wife at work and screamed “We won the Lottery!”
He said that he gave the winning ticket to his wife to claim because it was her idea to play the lottery that day.
The prizes have a guaranteed total value of $1million, with 19 annual payments of $52,000 (just over $32,000 after tax) and a 20th payment of $12,000 ($7,486 after tax). After all of these payments, Montes and Arcos will receive checks for $32,439 every year for life.
The “Win $1,000 a week for Life” ticket is priced at $2 per ticket and is available at stores selling New York Lottery scratch-offs.
