Thurso couple win £250,000 scratch card jackpot
THURSO, SCOTLAND – A couple from the most northerly town in the British mainland, Thurso, are celebrating after they won a £250,000 jackpot from a National Lottery scratch card.
Sandra and Glenn Swanson won the top prize on the “£250k Turquoise” scratch card after Mrs Swanson purchased it at a supermarket in the town.
According to reports, Mr Swanson, 54 was playing Wii golf with his brother when his wife came in to tell him the news.
Glenn Swanson is a care worker and said that he and his wife have decided to use the money to take their family of five on holiday and to buy their own home. Something they could only have dreamed of before the win.
Mrs Swanson, who is a stay at home mum, said: “I enjoy buying scratch-cards but the most I’ve ever won is £200 so it was a dream come true to win £250,000.”
The Swanson’s aren’t the first people from the Highlands to win big in the lottery this year. In the past six months, two couples from Wick; Alastair Cameron and his wife Isobel scooped the £500,000 Thunderball jackpot in March, while John and Angela Sutherland won over £282,000 on EuroMillions in August. A Lotto jackpot was also won by an anonymous person in Fort William earlier this year.
