Brooklyn woman plans to spread her $64m wealth

NEW YORK, N.Y. –  A mother of four from Brooklyn claimed her Mega Millions jackpot prize of $64million yesterday and promised to share it with her children and cousin.

Mary Shammas, 73 picked up her check at New York Lottery HQ and couldn’t hide her smiles when she was given the prize.

Describing herself to reporters as “semi-superstitious”, Mrs. Shammas knew that May 25th was her lucky day. She has played the lottery for 40 years and her feeling was right as the draw matched all the numbers she had chosen.

Mrs. Shammas, who opted for the lump sum payment of $43million, said that she had always promised to share any money she comes into with her family. She added that money had been tight for her in the past and that she nearly fainted when her numbers were drawn.

The winning Mega Millions numbers were 5, 14, 17, 19 and 24 with the Mega Ball number 25. Mary Shammas chose the numbers that related to her children’s birthdays and the Mega Ball for Christmas!
