Virginia Beach man wins $1million on scratch card

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Yesterday morning a man from Virginia Beach was presented with a cheque for $1million by the Virginia Lottery after he became a winner of the lottery scratch card “$5million Club”.

Joseph Daniels, the lucky winner, purchased five of the tickets at a local convenience store on Thursday and the last one he scratched turned out to be a winner!

Normally the $1million prize is paid out as an annuity of $40,000 per year for 25 years but Mr. Daniels  chose to take the prize as a lump sum, which reduces the prize amount to $642,000 before state and federal taxes are taken.

Daniels, who works as a finance manager for a car dealership has no plans to quit his job but he is looking forward to paying off his mortgage, a news release from the Virginia Lottery said.

The store where he bought the winning ticket will also receive a bonus of $10,000 for its part in making Mr. Daniels’ dream come true.
