Georgia man wins $1m from lottery scratch card

ATLANTA, GA – A 28 year old man from Glennville, Georgia, has become an instant millionaire after winning a jackpot prize from the Georgia Lottery’s $10 “Millionaire Celebration” scratch card.

Derrick DeLoach is a father of four purchased his ticket at a store in his hometown and scratched it straight away. He said that he was “excited” and his wife “was crying” as he revealed the million dollar prize. He said in a news release that he and his wife would most likely build a new family home with the new windfall they have received.

Even though the win still hasn’t sunk in for Mr. DeLoach, he hopes that the money he receives will give him and his family peace of mind over the next few years as his job in road construction may not be the most secure he could have.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.25 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program. (from the Georgia Lottery website)
