PROVIDENCE, R.I- GTECH Gaming Corporation, one of the world’s leading lottery providers and scratch card printers, has been forced to make 54 of it’s Rhode Island employees redundant.

The GTECH facility in Rhode Island manufactures lottery terminals and reduced demand for this product led to the cuts in staff.

GTECH spokesperson Bob Vincent said most of the lay offs were manufacturing workers from the factories in Coventry and West Greenwich. Nine of the 54 were engineers at these sites.

The company is a large employer in the state, with over 1,100 employees in Rhode Island still under contract with GTECH.

Italian lottery firm Lottomatics S.p.A took over GTECH in 2006.
