Australian tourist wins NZ Lotto first division prize

QUEENSTOWN, NZ – An Australian tourist visiting Queenstown on a skiing holiday will take home more than just memories after he won Lotto’s first division prize at the weekend.

The South Sydney man, visiting Queenstown with a group of friends and family last week, won $500,000 on Saturday’s draw.

“It’s been a difficult year for us financially with our small business in Australia almost going into receivership, so this win has come at such a good time for us.

“We know it’s been a hard year for people in New Zealand too, so we were really keen to come back and visit the South Island this year and spend our tourist dollar,” he said.

The ticket was bought at Fresh Choice in Queenstown.
