Unemployed couple win $250k scratch card prize

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Tracie Rogers, an engaged bride-to-be, collected her $250,000 Missouri Lottery prize and said she’ll use most of her winnings to pay off her mortgage rather than use it for an extravagant wedding.

Rogers, 29, says her fiance recently bought her a scratch off lottery ticket for $5.  With that ticket she won but didn’t make any profit, only enough to buy another scratch card.  Her fiance then bought her a second ticket and threw in another five dollar bill for a $10 scratch-off.  That turned out to be a lucky decision as the scratch card ended up being a jackpot winner!

The couple drove back to the store where they had purchased the ticket and had the prize confirmed, where their dreams finally came a reality.

Ms. Rogers says the windfall comes at a good time.  She is unemployed and her fiance, a welder, was laid off last year.  The couple cancelled a previous wedding date because of financial hardships. They have been together for 12 years and have been engaged for nine and a half so are looking forward to finally tying the  knot.

Tracie says she plans to pay off bills then may revisit the idea of planning a wedding soon.  She also says she’ll buy her fiance a new set of tires for his car.
